Financial Planning
Financial planning starts with understanding your life—not with a spreadsheet or an investment portfolio.
As fee-only financial advisors in Cranford, New Jersey, we begin by getting to know you: what you’re trying to accomplish, what matters most to you, what decisions are ahead, and what concerns are keeping you up at night.
From there, we work to develop a clear picture of where you stand today. That means understanding your assets and liabilities, income and spending, investments, insurance, taxes, estate plan, and the other pieces of your financial life that may affect the decisions you make.
Then we start asking questions.
When can I retire? Can I afford to spend more? When should I claim Social Security? How should I think about taxes? What happens if markets fall? Should I help my children or grandchildren? Am I taking the right amount of investment risk?
Some questions have relatively straightforward answers. Others require assumptions about a future none of us can know with certainty.
A financial plan isn’t a prediction.
We use what we know today, along with reasonable assumptions about the future, to evaluate your options and help you make thoughtful decisions. As circumstances change—as they inevitably will—we revisit those decisions and adjust the plan.
Depending on your needs, our planning work may include retirement and cash-flow planning, Social Security, tax-related planning considerations, Medicare and health insurance considerations, estate planning considerations, insurance needs, education funding, charitable giving, and other financial decisions that arise along the way.
Financial planning is also a collaborative process. When a question requires legal, tax, insurance, or other specialized advice outside our scope, we work with your other professionals—or help you identify the appropriate professional—to coordinate the different pieces of your financial life.
Most importantly, we view financial planning as an ongoing relationship—not a document we prepare once and put on a shelf.
Life changes. Markets change. Tax laws change. Priorities change.
Your financial plan should be able to change with them.
Our role is to help you understand where you stand, consider the choices in front of you, and make decisions with greater confidence—both today and in the years ahead.
